How to use NeoFace for face anonymization

Before you start
Use a test photo or short clip that resembles the content you normally make. A polished sample can hide the exact conditions that cause problems in production, so include normal lighting, expressions, and movement in your first test.
- Use even lighting so the full face is visible without deep shadows.
- Start with a front-facing or moderate three-quarter angle.
- Keep the face large enough in the frame to show clear detail.
- Use one clearly visible face and avoid hands, masks, or hair covering key features.
- For video, begin with a short test that includes talking and ordinary head movement.
NeoFace workflow, step by step
1. Create your account
Sign up, then open the guided NeoFace creation flow. You can use the free plan to test the workflow before deciding whether it fits your content.
2. Create and select a NeoFace
Upload one clear reference photo. NeoFace generates synthetic face options for you to compare. Choose the option you want to use as the active face for future anonymization jobs.
3. Upload content to anonymize
Open the anonymization area and upload a photo or prerecorded video. Use a short test first, especially when the file includes head turns, partial obstructions, fast movement, or changing light.
4. Review the processed result
Compare the source and processed versions closely. For video, pause on motion and inspect individual frames. If an area looks unstable, use a clearer source or adjust the framing and try again.
5. Download and complete a privacy check
Download only after the face replacement passes review. Then check the rest of the file for other identifiers before uploading it to a social or creator platform.
What happens to the original upload?
NeoFace temporarily retains the original upload for up to 30 minutes so you can compare the before and after versions. The original is then permanently deleted from NeoFace's system.
This deletion policy applies to the original upload. Your downloaded copy and any copy you publish or store elsewhere remain your responsibility. Read the current privacy policy before uploading sensitive material.
Current limitations to test for
Face anonymization quality depends on the source file. Extreme head angles, a face that is very small in the frame, heavy obstruction, multiple faces, complex expressions, or fast movement can create artifacts or an incomplete result. A file format being supported does not guarantee that every photo or frame will process equally well.
Face replacement is also one privacy layer, not a complete anonymity guarantee. It does not remove a recognizable voice, tattoos, room details, reflections, file metadata, reused usernames, or links between personal and creator accounts. Final review checklist
- Check the eyes, mouth, jawline, and hairline at full size.
- Scrub video frame by frame through head turns, motion, and lighting changes.
- Confirm that no frame briefly shows the original face.
- Check reflections, mirrors, thumbnails, and the first and last frames.
- Remove identifying metadata and review the background, tattoos, voice, and usernames separately.
